The Shining by Stephen King
Yeah, you’ve seen the movie a million times, but you probably haven’t read the book. Too bad, because you’re missing out on Stephen King at the top of his game.
The Shining is hands down the best thing King has ever written, chronicling Jack Torrance’s descent into madness at the haunted Overlook Hotel. You think you know this story, but King’s Jack is a much more nuanced and empathetic character than the unlikable psychopath Jack Nicholson portrayed from Act 1, Scene 1 of the Kubrick film adaptation.
Word on the street is that King is working on a sequel. Now that scares me…
