The first two rounds of DeFlip Side’s Sci-Fi Madness are history and the Sweet 16 take the court!
Two second-round battles went down to the wire.
Browncoats rallied early in the Trek/Firefly faceoff, giving Mal a shiny lead. But legions of Trekkers sent Kirk and the Enterprise warping past Serenity, taking the game by 12 votes. Looks like you can take the sky from them after all!
But the real Cinderella story is about a history teacher in his bright orange jammies! After being relentlessly stomped by Space 1999, The Greatest American Hero came roaring back at the eleventh hour to win by 17 votes! Get ’em, Ralph!
I absolutely love that Farscape is pitted against Star Trek: The Next Generation in this round.
Next Gen may be the purest realization of Gene Roddenberry’s original vision for Star Trek, but as wonderful as it is, it’s often hamstrung by the cloying political correctness of its philosopher-astronauts, who ponder lofty questions of the human condition as they tool around in their Space Hilton.
The universe doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the human condition, and neither would its other inhabitants. That’s why Farscape is so great. Creighton survives by his wits and creates a home where everyone would rather see him gone or dead. And despite his successes, the universe never, ever stops shitting on him or his adopted family. It’s refreshingly anti-Trek and even though it doesn’t have a chance in hell of winning, I know how I’m voting!
On with the Madness!
